Project Background
In this project, FER-PAL was tasked with rehabilitating 3,500 ft. of 12-in. watermain pipe feeding popular local businesses on Gilford Road (between W Bartlett Road and Spaulding Road) that were experiencing frequent breaks. The city isolated the line with the highest water consumption, and rehabilitated it with CIPP lining to ensure continued service and to eliminate the risk of future breaks.
The general contractor, Martam Construction lead the pit excavations, restorations and the open-cut replacement portion of this project. The intent was to start construction earlier in 2022, however delays occurred with the county and ductile iron sourcing. The open-cut replacement began in mid-October 2022, this portion of the project needed to be completed before lining could start. This meant that FER-PAL had a short window before freezing conditions became a reality.
The FER-PAL team connected local businesses to bypass water to ensure water supply, cleaned the pipes, conducted CCTV drain inspections to identify any corrosion, cracks or holes, and lined the pipes. Once installed, the water pressure and chlorination was tested to ensure businesses were supplied with clean water and to verify the pipe rehabilitation was properly installed and would last for many years avoiding future watermain breaks or additional investment. Notably, the lining was completed in 4 weeks before the winter weather ensued.
