Background & Overview
The City of Edina’s engineering team suspected a pipe was leaking, and because the pipe was located under a major highway and busy intersection, the engineers were looking for a trenchless solution that caused as little disruption as possible. The City of Edina is no stranger to trenchless technologies, the municipality had executed many successful CIPP watermain projects in the past, and understood the benefits of the solution.
Due to the existing infrastructure, a full replacement of the leaking pipe was not a realistic option, financially or in terms of disruptions to the local community.
FER-PAL’s trenchless watermain rehabilitation provided a strong, flexible and durable solution allowing the city of Edina’s architects to amend the original design, while benefiting from significant cost savings, reducing traffic disruptions, and ensuring a longer service life for their watermain project.
During the cleaning process FER-PAL uncovered five unmapped bends that were identified before the lining process began. FER-PAL’s experience, processes, and relationships with installation partners and with city stakeholders, ensured this significant discovery only added one day to the schedule – saving time and money.
From excavation to restoration the project was completed.
