Project Background
This project was the first year of the City’s three year multi-year tender. The pipes that were rehabilitated were a mix of ductile iron and cast iron watermains that had previously failed or were of concern to fail in the near future. An additional 600m of lining was added on-top of the original scope as the City has grown in concern of this watermain while the project itself had run ahead of schedule.
Overview
This project was completed at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. This meant that it was vital to ensure FER-PAL employees maintained COVID-19 safe protocols in order to ensure the community, as well as all staff remained safe. One large component of this was ensuring that water interruptions were minimized and scheduled properly.
As this project was located within a residential neighbourhood a large amount of services required reinstatement. The majority of these services ran under irreplaceable mature trees. FER-PAL successfully reinstated 558 services, a 98% success rate, saving each tree from harm or removal, which would have been required if the service was required to be replaced.
Two schools were located within the scope of this project which required additional coordination with the City as well as the schools themselves.
