As our neighborhoods get older and more established, so do the pipes that lay underground giving our household water systems.

Most pipes that feed homes water are unlined cast-iron pipe, ductile iron pipe or asbestos-cement (A-C) pipe was the material choice for water systems from the beginning of this century to the mid 1970’s.

One solution to resolve this problem is The Cement Mortar Lining Solution. The method that has been developed to counteract a number of problems is cement mortar lining. The watermains are cleaned by removing all turbercules and then a cement mortar lining is applied to the interior pipe walls to prevent the formation of new tubercules. This method has salvaged existing pipe by internally rehabilitating unlined cast-iron pipe in older, in-place pipelines.

The chemical nature of the cement itself maintains a zone of alkalinity at the mortar/metal interface. This prevents corrosion of the pipe wall since the moisture contained within the pores of the cement mortar has been raised in pH to a level well beyond that which will permit corrosion in ferrous metals.

Cement mortar also has the ability to self heal and seal cracks, which may occur during initial setting shrinkage. This process is known as “autogenous healing”. It is generally considered to be a carbonation process in which the free lime on the cement hydrates with the cement grains.

It still leaves major outstanding issues in the fact that a majority of watermains have deteriorating structural properties.This means that if the watermain breaks, shifts, or erodes away the cement lining goes with it. In a majority cases where cement mortar lining is used it is because the original watermain has not been structurally compromised.

The deterioration of the outside pipe can only be effectively resolved using the open cut replacement or with the insertion of The Structural Pipe Lining Solution.

The Structural Pipe is a stand alone, structurally sound liner which can take the place of the host pipe if gradual deterioration leads to disintegration or destruction.

Now, even with damage to the structural integrity of the existing pipe, problems that can be corrected with the Structural Pipe Lining include:
