Pipe Bursting Solution

The Pipe Bursting Solution
Pipe bursting allows the replacement of pipes such as cast iron, clay, non-reinforced concrete, ABS and PVC.  It can be used for size-for-size replacement or to increase the size of the existing pipeline.  Pipe ranging from four inches to thirty-six inches in diameter have been burst and replaced using the pipe bursting method.

The pipe is connected to the expander with a polyethylene threaded pipe connection.  The individual lengths of the replacement pipe are fused together using the butt-fusion method to provide a leak proof joint.  The fusing is accomplished by a fusion-trained technician.

Pipe Bursting Procedure
The excavation of the entrance and exit pits must be large enough to accept the new pipe and allow for tool passage.  Long sections of pipe can be replaced without introducing open trenches and heavy equipment.  The appropriate location of the pits is determined with a site analysis and survey of existing surrounding utilities for each replacement project.

Replacement of existing pipelines is achieved by guiding a penetrating tool through the host pipe with the use of a winch.  Depending on the suitable tool head selected for the project, a minimal pull is needed to allow the percussive action of the hammer and to provide tension on the replacement pipe.

Pipe Bursting is an Attractive Option Where:

  • Existing pipes have failed beyond repair
  • Crowded underground utilities situations occur
  • The depth and location of the existing line is a problem factor
  • Avoidance of disruption in high traffic or congested areas is required

The pipeline materials used in the pipe bursting process offer a wide variety of proven standard fittings.  These fittings may be used to reconnect your new pipe to the existing system or to lateral service lines.  Either way, every connection will be made with proven, leak proof fittings.
